My Personal Practice
I honor and revere my ancestors. I do not worship them. Much like I revere Saints, I revere and honor my dead loved one, some I knew, some I did not.
I have a "Dead Cabinet" or an Ancestral shrine. This is a curio cabinet filled with artifacts that once belonged deceased loves ones and topped with photos and candles. My oldest photos is a tin type of a grandparent. I use this shrine to speak to them, to honor them, and invite them to special family events. My family also celebrated Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. These types of celebration are observed across cultures all over the world.
The cabinet is in my living room near the entry door , to act a protection to my home. I have many items in the cabinet that reflect the personality of those who I loved and are gone, along with some ashes, and even object that were held by the loved one at the time of death.
